Technology & Operations Management

Driving Customer Value Through Operations

Technology and Operations Management addresses the activities an organisation undertakes to transform inputs into value for its customers, encompassing the systems, processes, and innovations that underpin operational excellence.

Designing and Managing Value-Adding Processes

Operations Management (OM) involves the design, oversight, and improvement of processes that create products or services—spanning everything from procurement and manufacturing to delivery. Because these value-adding activities cut across multiple organisations and functional areas, OM research often intersects with strategy, marketing, and organisational behaviour.

Drawing on methodologies from operations research, economics, and statistics, INSEAD’s Technology and Operations Management faculty foster a dynamic environment for doctoral studies. The PhD experience emphasises interdisciplinary inquiry, academic rigor, industry relevance, and a global outlook—ensuring that graduates are well-prepared to address complex, cross-functional challenges in operations.

Diverse Academic Profiles and Quantitative Strengths

INSEAD’s Technology and Operations Management PhD welcomes candidates from fields such as engineering, technology, information systems, management sciences, physical sciences, and finance. Ideal applicants have a solid grounding in mathematics, statistics, economics, or related quantitative subjects. While many students enter the programme directly from undergraduate or master’s studies, others bring significant professional experience. Prior research and methodological skills are beneficial, though not mandatory.
